LGBT was the first known term to describe the community and as time went on inclusivity improved and LGBTQ+ was made, and it got bigger again and we now have what we call the community today LGBTQIA+. LGBTQIA+ is the diversity within the community as a representation of different sexual orientations and gender identities.
L(lesbian)
G(gay)
B(bisexual)
T(transgender) then Q was added when the community took back the power behind the word queer and was added
Q(queer, some people also use the Q to stand for questioning)
I(intersex)
A(asexual)
The plus sign (+) in the acronym represents all the identities that are not included in the acronym, but are still part of the community.
Over the years RainbowBiz CIC has done its best to promote equality, inclusivity and diversity. We have taken part in numerous diversity parades/festivals and even hosted the first ever pride parade in flintshire in 2016, which turned Connahs Quay into an explosion of colour and sound. This festival brought the community together bringing joy and laughter to so many. North East Wales diversity festival featured 70+ stalls, live music, face paint, kids soft play and a pride march to open the festival.
RainbowBiz CIC sits on the North Wales police diversity and equality panel. We sit down with the North Wales police force to collaborate and bring a different perspective on ways to eliminate discrimination and how to improve the British equality law. This law offers individuals stronger protection against discrimination. It gives employers and businesses greater clarity about their responsibilities it sets new expectations that public services must treat everyone with dignity and respect.
